Tom Alsop (31) unluckily played back but the ball rolled down onto his stumps while Clark, who batted for three hours for his 67 which included ten fours, was leg before to one that might have been sliding down the leg side.Leicestershire kept plugging away and Scriven took two wickets in the last hour. Cheteshwar Pujara under-edged a ball that was too close for him to cut, and wicketkeeper Cox pulled off an outstanding leg-side stumping to remove Carter, but it was a rare highlight on a sobering day for the Foxes.

Make no mistake: Diaz is one of the best wingers in all of the Premier League Europe. The Colombia international joined from Porto in January 2022, all tricks and athletics and energy. He cost an initial £37m and was billed as Sadio Mane’s successor.

He has succeeded Mane, winning the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups; and, whisper it quietly, he’s edging toward matching the Senegalese’s Premier League title tally.

But Diaz is also approaching a crossroads of his own, for he will be playing out the penultimate year of his Liverpool contract next year. By the time Diaz’s current deal expires, he will have turned 30.

There’s also the matter of his potency, averaging a goal contribution every 0.39 matches for Liverpool as opposed to the devastating Mane’s 0.60 per game.

With Cody Gakpo, 25, so high and mighty on the left wing, you feel that Diaz has been demoted to a second-fiddle sort of role, only playing with such regularity this term because of his makeshift centre-forward stint, largely facilitated by Darwin Nunez’s unreliability and Diogo Jota’s inconsistency on the fitness front.

It’s possible that Diaz will be sold this year. Barcelona and Saudi-based outfits have expressed an interest, with Liverpool fielding bids worth £67m.

He’d need replacing externally, to be sure, but Liverpool might find that they actually have a homegrown successor in their midst.

Gakpo has scored 16 goals already this season, matching his haul from last year having played about 1,000 fewer minutes. For sure, the Netherlands star has replaced Diaz as Liverpool’s star man on the left flank.

Diaz is still playing regularly though, but his blank against Everton last weekend now means that he has gone six top-flight fixtures without a goal contribution, starting as the ‘striker’ each game. In fact, the 28-year-old has only scored in seven of his 34 matches in all competitions, with 12 goals in total.

The South American’s football isn’t exclusively defined by his numbers, but he’s hardly irreplaceable for a sum such as £67m, especially when Liverpool have a prospect as exciting as Rio Ngumoha pushing against the first-team fencing.

Ngumoha, 17, has made waves within Liverpool’s academy this year, having been poached from Chelsea’s Cobham last summer in what has been regarded as a detrimental blow by senior Chelsea figures.

He’s the real deal. It’s a situation that has even been likened to the Blues’ former loss of Jamal Musiala, who joined Bayern Munich aged 16 and hasn’t looked back.

Ngumoha saw the success of ‘Klopp’s Kids’ last year and decided that Liverpool’s foundational fold would be the perfect hothouse for him to foster his ability and fight for a place in the first team.

Liverpool’s starlet is principally a left-sided forward but, as is commonplace at youth level, he’s played across a variety of roles. However, the right footer’s pace and natural power denote a place on the left wing.

Reporter Lewis Bower went as far as to say that his quality at such a young age is peerless at Kirkby academy: “I’ve probably never seen anything like it before. In terms of his ceiling, it’s frightening.”

All told, he’s rather good, with his FA Cup showing against Accrington Stanley this season showcasing the raw qualities that bespeak a future at the summit of the European game.

He was tenacious, with a bite and ball-carrying drive that certainly presents similarities to Diaz. With several years of hard graft ahead, Ngumoha could find himself occupying a nailed-down role in Slot’s squad, perhaps taking the long-term seat that will have been vacated by Liverpool’s Colombia international.

The Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle even handed Ngumoha a 7/10 match score on his professional debut, causing problems for the League Two side throughout and looking at home among his senior peers. The teenager’s propensity for good timing was noted, releasing balls at the right moment and knowing when to take on his man.

The caveat to all this is that should Diaz be sold this summer, it would be remiss to throw Ngumoha into the deep end before he has developed his football to the right level.

However, given that Slot has already handed the prodigy an opportunity, it’s fair to say that he can expect further chances over the coming months and years, with a goal toward taking the baton as Liverpool’s new talisman.

Lucas Lima chegou ao Palmeiras em janeiro de 2018 e teve um início promissor. Com sete gols marcados e dez assistências em 60 jogos disputados, ele foi um dos destaques do time comandado por Felipão na conquista do Campeonato Brasileiro daquele ano.

Mesmo sendo um dos destaques do time em 2018, a boa fase de Lucas Lima no Palmeiras não durou muito tempo. As atuações inconstantes fizeram com que os dirigentes alviverdes optassem por emprestá-lo ao Fortaleza em agosto de 2021. O contrato durou até dezembro deste ano. Pelo Tricolor, disputou 68 partidas.

The PCB has reluctantly agreed to have the last five matches of the ongoing Asia Cup played in Colombo, as scheduled. This is despite the Pakistan board having strongly objected to the games staying in Colombo and not moving to Hambantota, as well as the manner in which the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) made that decision.The PCB had been on board with plans to move the Colombo matches to Hambantota, on account of rains being forecast in Colombo during the next ten days – this information is understood to have been provided by Sri Lanka’s department of meteorology. On Monday evening, and on Tuesday morning, the ACC appeared to be working on the understanding that the games would shift to Hambantota.But suddenly, around midday on Tuesday, the ACC sent a mail to the stakeholders stating that the matches would be played in Colombo as originally scheduled. This incensed the PCB officials, who not only would have preferred the matches to have been played in Hambantota but were also alarmed that the ACC had made this decision unilaterally, without adequately consulting them, the hosts of the tournament.In response, the PCB called for an immediate ACC executive board meeting, and has also sent a letter to ACC president Jay Shah, protesting the decision-making process at the ACC. But beyond pulling out of the tournament, there is little the PCB can do now. While deeply troubled by the events of Tuesday, the PCB appears unlikely to take a drastic step.On Tuesday afternoon, Shah himself made a statement as ACC president, which addressed the matter of the tournament’s scheduling.”All the full members, media rights holder, and in-stadia rights holders were initially hesitant to commit to hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan,” Shah said in this statement. “This reluctance stemmed from concerns related to the security and economic situation prevailing in the country.”However, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have visited Pakistan for bilateral tours since 2019, and have also played matches there in the group stage of the ongoing Asia Cup. Neither team has publicly expressed a reluctance to play there, nor have their boards expressed a reluctance to send teams to Pakistan. In fact, two BCCI officials – board president Roger Binny and vice-president Rajeev Shukla – have visited Lahore over the past two days, and were hosted by the governor of (Pakistani) Punjab.The background to all of this is that the PCB had originally wanted the whole tournament to be played in Pakistan, but the BCCI refused on the basis that their government would not allow the team to travel to Pakistan. In any case, the SLC is pleased the tournament will stay in Colombo, and has always preferred the tournament to be played there, as it is logistically the easiest city in which to host a multi-team tournament. SLC chief executive Ashley de Silva told ESPNcricinfo on Tuesday that one of the reasons the ACC decided to keep the games in Colombo was because “a lot of fans had already made arrangements to watch the matches in Colombo” and because “the last few days it hasn’t been raining as much” in the city.He also cited Sri Lanka’s largely successful history with hosting ODIs. In the last ten years, 79 of the 84 men’s ODIs played in the country have been completed. Of the five abandoned matches, Saturday’s game was the only match to be abandoned in the month of September, which historically is not an especially wet month.Jay Shah points to ‘several changes’ in PCB for confusion
In his statement, Shah also said, “In my capacity as ACC President, I was committed to finding a viable and mutually agreeable solution. To this end, I had accepted the hybrid model that was proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in collaboration with the ACC management. However, it’s important to note that the leadership of the PCB underwent several changes, and this resulted in some back-and-forth negotiations, particularly regarding crucial aspects such as tax exemption and insurance for matches.”In response to initial PCB suggestions that the tournament be played in Pakistan and the UAE – aired again in recent days given the weather in Sri Lanka – Shah said there was a difference between playing 20-over games and 50-over games in the UAE in September.”The Asia Cup 2022 edition was played in the UAE in the T20 format. It’s important to emphasize that the dynamics of a T20 tournament cannot be directly compared to those of a 100-over One-day format. In this context, ACC members received feedback from their respective high-performance teams, expressing concerns about playing One-day matches in the UAE in the month of September. Such a schedule could have potentially led to player fatigue and an increased risk of injuries, particularly right before the all-important ICC Cricket World Cup.”The decision-making process regarding the Asia Cup 2023 format and venue was guided by a sincere desire to prioritise the well-being of the players, as well as the overarching interests of the sport. Ultimately, the goal was to strike a balance that would allow for a competitive and successful tournament while ensuring the health and readiness of the participating teams for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.”

وتابع: “كان يجب بيع أحمد فتوح إذا رفض تجديد عقده، وهذا لا يعيب الإدارة ولا النادي، بدليل حدوث ذلك مع وسام أبو علي في الأهلي”.

وواصل: “كنت أتمنى أن يستمر زيزو مع الزمالك حتى النهاية وأن يختار وجهة غير الأهلي، زيزو يمتلك مقومات النجاح، لكنه لم ينجح في الزمالك رغم توافر نفس المقومات”.

وأتم: “أنا أعرف جون إدوارد بشكل شخصي، وهو محترف في عمله، متمرس في مجاله، ويمتلك خبرة واسعة في إدارة الأندية”.

-(Abel Ferreira) Por ser português e estar há muito tempo no Brasil, ele não entraria como estrangeiro, é “abrasileirado”. Não daria o choque de trazer um espanhol, um italiano, um argentino. O treinador gaúcho é partidário da contratação de Abel Ferreira como sucessor de Tite na Seleção, tanto pelo trabalho quanto pelos títulos conquistados. TENTATIVA POR GUARDIOLA

Em meio às especulações sobre o próximo técnico da Seleção Brasileira após a saída de Tite, a CBF chegou a procurar Pep Guardiola, do Manchester City, há cerca de três anos para um projeto de assumir a Amarelinha depois da Copa do Mundo do Qatar. No entanto, as conversas travaram com a sinalização dos salários.

Foi o que contou Francisco Noveletto, sem revelar quem teria sido o vice-presidente que intermediou a procura pelo treinador espanhol, que seria o grande sonho da entidade para ocupar esse cargo.

-Há três anos, um colega meu que foi vice-presidente na CBF chegou a ter um contato com o Guardiola. A resposta do empresário foi: “Tudo bem, quem não gostaria de treinar a Seleção Brasileira? Ele aceita, mas ganha 24 milhões de euros aqui”. A pessoa que foi atrás dessa informação, na possibilidade de o Tite sair, quase enfartou… Fez uma continha: dois milhões de euros por mês e viria por mais, porque teria que dar um “plus” para ele sair de lá.

Apesar da indefinição sobre o sucessor de Tite e de negar que a CBF esteja tratando disso em meio a uma Copa do Mundo, Francisco Noveletto não descarta tentar manter o atual treinador no cargo em caso de conquistar o hexacampeonato no Qatar. Segundo o dirigente, seria esse o seu desejo pessoal para a Seleção. Ele também descartou, por ora, a informação da contratação de Mano Menezes.

-Foi o que eu disse nessa situação de que já estava contratado o Mano Menezes, eu disse que jamais a CBF iria se envolver em um momento como esse, arrumar tumulto, porque realmente o Tite falou em que coletiva que, ganhando ou não a Copa, encerraria o ciclo na Seleção. Agora, duvido que, se ele ganhar a Copa, ele saia ou nós o deixemos sair. Já estou preparado com um laço para laçar ele e não soltar. Isso (Mano Menezes) não partiu da CBF, para deixar bem claro, CBF está muito focada na Copa – garantiu o cartola gaúcho.

Northern Superchargers made it two wins from their two completed matches as they held off Trent Rockets’ chase to win by three runs at Trent Bridge.Superchargers were defending 142 for 5, having recovered from a devastating burst of 3 for 8 in 10 balls by Luke Wood at the start thanks to David Wiese, who made 54 from 25, and Brydon Carse (33 from 29) adding 72 unbroken from 48 balls, of which 47 came off the last 15 deliveries, including four sixes from the Namibia allrounder.After Alex Hales hit 29 from 22 balls at the top of the Rockets innings, Sam Hain (20 from 12) and Daniel Sams (27 from 14) took them close but ultimately Reece Topley (2 for 20) defended nine off the last five balls to see the Superchargers home. Bastou um minuto para o Atlético-MG apresentar seu ímpeto ofensivo. Na sobra de um escanteio, Mariano bateu rasteiro e a bola raspou na trave. Em seguida, Zaracho serviu e Vargas arriscou de cabeça, obrigando Adryelson a saltar para salvar.

A torcida atleticana ficou eufórica aos 12 minutos. Dodô avançou até a linha de fundo e alçou. Vargas, de cabeça, mandou para a rede. Contudo, o árbitro Leandro Pedro Vuaden, orientado pelo VAR, invalidou a jogada por impedimento do lateral-esquerdo do Atlético.

Diante de um Botafogo atordoado, o Galo continuou a se lançar à frente. Em brecha na direita, Vargas entrou na grande área e superou Gatito Fernández em dividida. Sem ângulo, o chileno esticou a Zaracho, que se desvencilhou do goleiro, mas errou a pontaria. No lance, Gatito saiu de campo com dores no braço esquerdo.

Já o Glorioso sofria para frear as jogadas de Zaracho, Jair e Dodô e não media forças no meio de campo. A equipe dependeu de lampejos para assustar os donos da casa. Jeffinho passou por Jemerson e encheu o pé, mas a bola parou na arquibancada. Tiquinho Soares tentou em duas oportunidades, sem sucesso. Bem fechados, os comandados de Luís Castro asseguraram o empate na etapa inicial.

A volta do intervalo trouxe um novo panorama do Botafogo. Júnior Santos aproveitou um espaço, arrancou pela esquerda e assustou Everson em conclusão traiçoeira. Só que o Atlético-MG logo manteve sua postura incisiva.

Keno lançou para a área e Vargas, após driblar Adryelson, encheu o pé. Só que Lucas Perri pulou para evitar o gol. Em seguida, Keno surgiu livre e tocou na saída do goleiro. Caprichosamente, a bola bateu na trave e voltou para as mãos de Perri.

Os botafoguenses viam jogadas de Tiquinho e Jeffinho esbarrarem na defesa atleticana. Além disso, tiveram calafrios quando Marçal fez o recuo e Vargas quase se antecipou e roubou a bola. Só que o panorama mudou na reta final.

BOTAFOGO PARTE PARA A VITÓRIA

As mudanças de Luís Castro aumentaram o poderio ofensivo do Botafogo. Jair perdeu a bola no meio de campo e Luís Henrique lançou Tiquinho Soares. O camisa 9 foi até a lateral, cruzou e Victor Sá não titubeou ao mandar a bola para a rede.

Em vantagem, o Alvinegro passou a dominar as ações e logo ampliou o placar. Lucas Fernandes fez o cruzamento e Tiquinho Soares fulminou para a rede. O Galo fez mudanças e chegou a assustar em conclusão de Pavón. Porém, o Botafogo soube administrar sua vitória na reta final.
